Water Saving Tips

In the heart of Enugu, where water is both precious and vital, it's crucial that we join hands to conserve this invaluable resource. Here are simple yet impactful water-saving tips:

  • Check toilet for leaks: Use food coloring to detect leaks wasting over 100 gallons/day.
  • Don't use toilet as trash: Every item flushed wastes 5-7 gallons of water.
  • Place a plastic bottle in toilet tank: Filled with sand, it can save 5+ gallons/day without affecting efficiency.
  • Shorten showers: Limit to essential washing to save 5-10 gallons/minute.
  • Take baths: Partially filled tubs use less water than most showers.
  • Turn off water while brushing teeth: Wet brush, fill a glass for rinsing.
  • Turn off water while shaving: Fill sink for razor rinsing.
  • Check faucets for leaks: Even small drips can waste 50+ gallons/day.
  • Use dishwasher and washing machine for full loads: Saves 30-35 gallons per cycle.
  • Don't let faucet run while cleaning vegetables: Use a bowl or sink of water.
  • Keep drinking water in the fridge: Avoid running tap to cool it.
  • If hand washing dishes, don't leave water running: Fill a sink for rinsing.
  • Water lawn only when needed: Step on grass – if it springs back, it doesn't need water.
  • Use a broom, not a hose, for cleaning: Saves hundreds of gallons.
  • Check for leaks in pipes and couplings: Even outside leaks can be highly wasteful.

Most importantly: always lock up your water properly when not in use.
